Chapter 5: WRITING THE REPORT WHILE DOING THE RESEARCH WORK

Abstract:

Work Database is a new and powerful concept. It is a convenient electronic storage cabinet, developed to store and structure all the work information acquired during the entire research process.

1. Why write the report while doing the work?

Writing the report is one of the most daunting tasks of research. All researchers enjoy the actual research, but many falter when the "paper work" must be done.¹ It is said² that in the field of archaeology, up to 60% of the research is not reported!

One of the reasons for this, is the hard work needed to write a report. Many hate the idea of starting with a blank page after all the work is completed and the report must now be written.

All of us have experienced some form of "writer’s block". However, to wait until the last minute before starting to write their research report can be a recipe for disaster. This view is supported by many authors.^{1, 2, 3}

We are convinced that most researchers would welcome any help with this aspect of the research process. We therefore developed Work Database, where it is now possible to write the report while doing the research work!
